Samsung launches app store in Europe

Samsung is launching an app store containing applications and content for its Omnia smartphones.

The store, which will be available to UK, France and Italy first, will launch on 14 September.

Samsung said the service will expand to another 30 countries in the coming months.

The store will initially launch with around 300 applications, including games and ebooks, and will increase to around 2,000 applications by the end of 2009.

Users will be able to pay for the service via credit card or mobile phone subscription.

Omnia and Omnia HD users will need to upgrade their phones with the download icon, which will be available on the store's site. The store will also be available on the upcoming Omnia II, Omnia Pro, Omnia Lite and some new devices.
