Sony Ericsson announces the Xperia, X2
Sony Ericsson has announced the Xperia, X2, a handset based on the Windows operating system, designed to allow developers an easier development platform.
The handset is the first phone based on the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and is exclusive to Vodafone.
The company is hoping to reach both businesses and consumers by combining Microsoft Office Mobile for business use with multimedia features.
The phone has been designed to allow users an enhanced email and multimedia experience based on the Windows platform. It has 14 pre-loaded ‘panels’ including Skype, Google, a QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2” touch screen, 8.1 mega-pixel camera.
There is also a SlideView feature which gives quick access to frequently used phone activities, such as missed calls or emails and text messages.
The handset has a ‘streamlined’ interface making it easier for developers to create applications.
The ‘panelizer’ is a tool that turns exisiting Flash, Java and Windows Mobile applications into panels that can be used on the X2.
Sony Ericsson, marketing business manager, Sumit Malhotra said: ‘We constantly rely on our mobile phones as an extension to the office and the Xperia X2 debuting with Windows Mobile 6.5, allows users to work quickly and efficiently while on the move.
‘The Xperia X2 also features a new range of interactive panels as well as SlideView, which provides quick access to frequently used phone activities - perfect for those who need to see any missed incoming activity at a glance.’
