Orange confirms iPhone will be sold via Phones 4u, Carphone, HMV
Orange will distribute the iPhone through Phones 4u, Carphone Warehouse and its HMV concessions, the network’s VP of sales and loyalty, Guillaume Van Gaver, confirmed today (13 October).
The news follows Mobile’s prediction last month that the device would be distributed through both Carphone and Phones 4u.
The network will also select dealers and distributors in a ‘phase approach’ from Q4 this year through to Q1 2010, according to Van Gaver.
Van Gaver confirmed that the iPhone would be available from Q4 on Orange, but he would not confirm a November launch.
He said: ‘We’ve had good feedback from customers – we have seen 100,000 registrations of interest in four days after we announced it.’
The operator has been working on its 3G coverage and how to give its customers a ‘great experience on the iPhone’. It has also been working on ways to avoid putting pressure on the data network with the device, Van Gaver said.
However, he added that the operator would ‘absolutely not engage in a price war’, and would instead would put a strong emphasis on its network to entice customers.
Meanwhile, O2 also announced it would distribute the iPhone through Phones 4u, as well as its former incumbent, Carphone.
