Acer set to grow smartphone market share

Acer is planning to grow its smartphone market share into double figures by 2014 with the launch of a host of new handsets

The new entrant to the smartphone market plans to release another eight smartphones next year to add to the nine handsets it has so far released.

Acer announced its launch into the mobile phone market earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress.

The firm’s first Android-powered smartphone, the Liquid, will be available by the end of November.

It comes with a new user interface that gives access to entertainment and web bookmarks. It also sports a five-megapixel camera with geo-tagging, self-timer and accelerated auto-focus.

The Liquid Spinlets application allows free streaming of music and videos.

Pricing and distribution for the Liquid has yet to be revealed.

Acer is the leading netbook provider with a 36 per cent share and is second in the notebook market behind HP.
