T-Mobile and Orange will not give up spectrum

T-Mobile and Orange will not make any concessions to win regulatory approval for the merger of their UK units.

COO of Deutsche Telekom, Hamid Akhavan,  and Olaf Swantee head of France Telecom, told a Financial Times conference last week that the two companies do not need to give up radio spectrum to receive regulatory approval for the agreement.

Orange and T-Mobile intend to form a UK joint venture, which will become the biggest mobile business in the country, with a 37% share of mobile revenue.

The two companies have already signed the agreement, but the deal still needs to be reviewed by regulators.

O2 and Vodafone are expected to push the regulators to require Orange and T-Mobile to relinquish parts of their 1,800 megahertz spectrum.
