Tesco Mobile will distribute the iPhone ‘before Christmas’, the MVNO announced today (25 November).
The MVNO, which runs on O2’s network, will sell Apple’s device on pay as you go and pay monthly. It did not reveal price plans but said tariffs would be ‘very competitive’.
The announcement will see Tesco Mobile distribute the iPhone before Vodafone, which announced it September that it would sell the device from 2010.
Orange began selling the iPhone earlier this month.
Tesco is hoping the sought-after Apple device will entice shoppers into its dedicated, in-store, ‘Phone Shops’ during the busy Christmas period.
Tesco Mobile is a joint venture between former iPhone incumbent O2 and supermarket giant Tesco.
Tesco Mobile said: ‘Tesco Mobile through its joint venture partnership with O2 is pleased to announce that it will shortly introduce iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in Tesco Phone Shops and online through Tesco Direct in the UK.’
