Samsung’s touch-screen smartphone sales soar to 50 million
Sales of Samsung’s full touch-screen smartphones have soared to 50 million since 2008.
The manufacturer’s sales growth has exploded from 10 million last year to 40 million in 2009.
The numbers put Samsung in the running to be the largest touch-screen smartphone manufacturer this year. Its aggressive pricing, global reach and its push into cheaper devices has put it ahead of Apple, which has sold nearly 34 million iPhones since 2007.
Samsung is on track to exceed its 2009 target of 200 million mobile phones, with full touch-models such as the Tocco Lite (pictured) accounting for around 20% of handsets sold.
‘We’ve seen remarkable growth in full touch-screen mobiles this year,’ said JK Shin, head of Samsung Electronics. ‘Samsung will continue to expand the global full touch-phone market by introducing devices tailored to individual regions and user requirement with stylish designs, intuitive user interfaces and cutting-edge features.’
