Motorola Milestone handset to hit UK on Monday (7 December)
Motorola’s Milestone handset is set to launch in the UK on Monday (7 December).
The manufacturer’s second Android handset has earned rave reviews in the US, where it is named the Motorola Droid.
The device, which is touted as the latest potential ‘iPhone killer’, has a 3.7-inch touch-screen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, up to 32GB of storage and a five-megapixel camera with built-in flash. It runs on Android 2.0, the latest version of the operating system.
The Motorola Milestone will not be available from high street stores until 2010. Instead, UK consumers will have to buy an unsubsidised handset through the online retailer Expansys.
The Milestone will cost £449.99 and will work on any network.
Industry experts have questioned whether the lack of high street exposure could harm sales of the device, but Motorola defended its decision and said it was a response to consumer demand.
Expansys will have exclusive rights to sell the device until the end of the year.
