Orange launches ‘open’ app store

Orange launched a cross-platform, multiple device, application shop this week – one of the ‘key projects’ in its multimedia strategy.

Customers will pay for purchases from the app store, which can be used on operating systems including Android and Windows Mobile, through their Orange phone bill.

The app store will initially be available to existing Orange customers with ‘on air’ devices such as Sony Ericsson’s W995, head of Orange Application Shop, Dominic Lobo, said.

It will then be preinstalled in all Orange devices, rolling out over the course of 2010. ‘We want it on as many devices as possible,’ said Lobo.
