Virgin Media launches ‘Get Social’ for mobile customers

Virgin Media has launched ‘Get Social’, a social networking and email application for its mobile customers.

The service will provide instant updates from Twitter, Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger and straight to a customer’s mobile.

It will launch initially on the Nokia 5800, Nokia 5530, Sony Ericsson W595 and Sony Ericsson K770i, with more handsets to be added in the New Year.

Jonathan Kini, director of mobile at Virgin Media, said: ‘Get Social will transform the mobile experience for our customers’ favourite social networks. We’re changing the way people use their mobile phones, with simple, market-leading mobile data rates and a whole world of content, delivered straight to peoples’ pockets.’

The company said that internet use among its customers has doubled since January, driven by ‘market-leading mobile data tariffs’ and its increasing range of high-end handsets.

Virgin recently added the Nokia N86, BlackBerry Curve 8520 and the Samsung Jet to its high-end handset line-up.
