Orange to launch enhanced voice service

Orange is creating a new service that will allow customers to have access to clearer sound quality, called Orange HD Voice.

The service, which will emerge during the course of 2010, is based on ongoing network improvements that the operator has been carrying out.

Orange HD Voice will allow users to have excellent audio quality on HD Voice enabled handsets and the operator is working with handset manufacturers on the development of devices.

WB-AMR (Wideband Adaptive Multi-Rate) speech codec technology improves audio quality due to a wider speech bandwidth than usual.

Orange CEO, Tom Alexander, said: ‘Orange is proud to be leading the industry into the next decade by announcing a new standard in voice innovation that will transform the mobile experience for customers in the UK. HD Voice really does inject a level of innovation into mobile phone calls, making it sound as if callers are actually in the same room. Once people have tried it, they won’t want to go back.’
