Acer will launch its second
Android phone in the UK by the end of this quarter, the IT manufacturer told Mobile this week.
The launch follows hot on
the heels of its first Android smartphone - the Liquid - launched in the
late last month.
Acer plans to launch around six new Android smartphones in the first half of
2010. The move is part of its drive to expand into mobile. It aims
to be one of the top five handset manufacturers within five years.
Julien Bertheuil, Acer's UK business development manager, told Mobile that its decision to manufacture a
portfolio of Android phones does not mean it is abandoning Windows Mobile as a

rebalancing our portfolio which was very Windows Mobile driven last year. We
want to develop the equivalent number of Android devices so it is more about
raising the number of Android devices than about reducing our involvement in

The recently launched
Liquid sports a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a Qualcomm 8250 Snapdragon chipset
