Nokia ‘back with a vengeance’ at Carphone

Nokia is ‘back with a vengeance’ after a strong Christmas, according to Carphone Warehouse CFO, Roger Taylor.

Taylor said Nokia did particularly well with its low-cost Illuvial product range. ‘It drove some really significant market share,’ he added.

He also said it was a strong Christmas for smartphones like Apple’s iPhone, compared with cheaper Sim-only deals, which had surged in popularity at the start of economic downturn.

LG's BL40 Chocolate phone and Research in Motion's Blackberry phones had also sold well.

Meanwhile, smartphones were in demand at Carphone, for both pre-pay and post-deals, and the company captured around a third of the pre-pay market over Christmas, Taylor said.
