LG looks for sales director after Barton eit
LG Mobile is looking for a replacement for sales and marketing director John Barton, who resigned two weeks ago, with a remit to propel the company into the top three manufacturers by share by the end of 2010.

It is understood that LG is considering removing marketing from Barton's role, although the manufacturer is still looking to recruit a head of marketing to replace Jeremy Newing, who left LG late in 2009.

The company denied the move and said that 'no changes were anticipated in the reporting line or general scope' of Barton's role.

Sources told Mobile that LG is looking to replace Barton with someone who is 'dynamic' and able to 'take the company to the next level' in its bid to grow its handset sales by 20% globally in 2010.

To achieve this, LG needs to gain UK share and put itself in third position, a target set by the company's Korean parent.

One source close to the company said: 'The global strategy is to be in the top three - for this, they need to be in the top three in the UK and they need someone who will make this happen.'

It is understood that although LG reported year on year growth at the end of 2009, it was still below targets set by Korea - which is keen to increase the manufacturer's position in the UK market.
