Peter Jones takes part in Sport Relief and calls for SME donations
Telecoms entrepreneur Peter Jones has called on SMEs to donate to the charity Sport Relief campaign.
The chairman and chief executive of Phones International Group, which includes distributor Data Select and electronic retailer Expansys, will be cycling 1000 miles.
The charity bike ride started on 1 March at John O’Groats and will finish after 80 hours at Lands End.
Jones will be cycling with other celebrities including David Walliams, Davina McCall and Fearne Cotton.
Jones is calling on 1000 SMEs to donate £100 and in return for their donations the companies will feature on an online share index called ‘The Pedal Power 1000’.
The aim of the index is to promote each company that makes a donation.
Jones said: ‘I know businesses have had a tough time but I am convinced that many will want to get involved in supporting this good cause – and I hope that a little promotional support from me in return will make it worth their while.
‘Other big TV charity efforts don’t seem to actively involve smaller companies in their fundraising – but these firms like to do their bit and should get some recognition for their efforts.’
