Orange contract customer base surges to record seven million

 

Orange’s contract customer base has hit a record seven million after adding 100,000 contract users since Q4 2009, according to an internal memo sent by sales and loyalty chief Guillaume van Gaver.

The additions were the result of a strong performance in both direct and indirect channels, the operator said.

Van Gaver’s memo said: ‘I was extremely proud of all the records we broke in 2009, which proved as a team that when we work together, focus on the right objectives and maintain momentum we can achieve great things.

‘Today I am happy to announce that we have smashed another sales and loyalty record and made Orange history! By continuing the excellent growth in contract customer additions, I can reveal that we've just hit a major milestone – the seven million contract customer base.

‘A huge thank you and well done to all of you who contributed in making this a reality. Let's see what more we can achieve in 2010.’

The memo comes soon after Orange revealed it had added 404,000 UK customers during the quarter ended 31 December 2009, fuelled by ‘high-end multimedia devices’, such as the iPhone.

Orange UK’s total contract customer base grew 12% year on year to 6.9 million, taking its total customer base to 17.4 million. It also saw its best prepay performance for over two years.
