Lycatel investigated by Ofcom

Lycatel, the prepaid calling card business that also runs Lycamobile, is being investigated by Ofcom.

The industry regulator is looking into allegations that Lycatel levied hidden charges on card users and gave them fewer minutes than they had paid for.

The investigation was launched after complaints from Consumer Direct and standards officers in Tower Hamlets and Suffolk were passed on to Ofcom.

If the company is found guilty, it could be fined up to 10% of its turnover.

Lycatel has five million customers worldwide and has slowly been moving into the mobile prepay market.
