Mitchinson breaks silence on Samsung departure
Samsung UK boss Mark Mitchinson has issued a statement following his unexpected departure from the company, revealed exclusively by Mobile yesterday.
Mitchinson, who has spent almost 11 years at the companys UK mobile division, said he had decided to exit Samsung to spend more time with his family and pursue educational interests.
He said: 'I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Samsung and making the decision to leave such a great company was far from easy but I genuinely feel its time I spent some quality time with my family over the summer before embarking on an MBA later in the year. I'm immensely proud of what we have achieved as a team since I joined Samsung back in July 1999 and I leave behind an amazing group of highly talented and dedicated people.
'Clearly the opportunity to run both the Samsung Mobile and IT divisions was very tempting and I genuinely appreciated the offer, but I really feel the time is now right to handover the reins. There is still huge potential and opportunity within the Mobile/IT sector and I sincerely wish Samsung and their customers all the very best for the future.'
Samsung Electronics UK managing director, David Song added: 'Mark's decision to leave Samsung was totally unexpected, but we respect his decision and wish him well. Mark has been a tremendous ambassador for Samsung and we recognise and really appreciate his entrepreneurial leadership and monumental achievements during the past decade'.
