Apple iPad will not be sold in operator retail stores
Apple's iPad will not initially be sold through operator retail and will therefore not be subsidised.
Orange, O2 and Vodafone announced yesterday that they would sell price plans for the device, which will be revealed at the end of May.
But consumers will need to buy the full price 3G-enabled iPad through Apple, and buy the data plans separately.
This could change after the initial launch period, with the device eventually subsidised and sold through direct operator retailers as well as Carphone Warehouse.
The news has disappointed network retail staff, who had been expecting to sell the device. O2 staff were told this morning that the iPad would not be available in store.
One source said: 'Apple likes to keep complete control over its launches and this includes pricing.'
