Best Buy to open first UK store on 30 April
Best Buy has announced its first UK store in Thurrock, Essex, will open on 30 April.
The American retailer will hold a four-day launch ‘festival’ to mark the event, with customers invited to the store to for a range of ‘amazing’ deals.
Best Buy bought a 50% stake in Carphone Warehouse’s retail business for £1.1bn in May 2008.
The ‘big-box’ retailer is planning to open 70 to 80 stores in the UK by 2013. It currently has five site locations and will be opening its Southampton store in June.
In a blog on Best Buy’s website by Thurrock store manager, Kam Prajapati it said: ‘After months of intensive training at our dedicated academy, our Blueshirts are looking forward to welcoming you to our store and providing 100% impartial advice. They can show you how products work – and how they work together – to help make life easier, more connected and more filled with entertainment.’
Meanwhile, Best Buy announced today that it will launch a ‘GreenTech’ area, showcasing everything from energy management products to solar chargers and electric vehicles – a first for any UK consumer electronics retailer.
