RIM appoints Bates to head up UK
BlackBerry manufacturer RIM has promoted Stephen Bates to head up its newly structured UK management team.
Bates, who was previously in charge of RIMs O2 Telefnica account, comes into a new role at the manufacturer, which was previously managed from France. Bates worked in a number of roles for Nortel before taking on the O2 role at RIM.
The new team will be charged with the continued success of RIM devices in the UK market, across consumer and business.
Meanwhile, it is thought that Jacqui Cooper, RIM UK VP of channel, has had her role expanded.
One source said: 'The interesting thing will be whether BlackBerry is able to sustain the momentum it has managed to achieve with this new management team'.
RIM recently managed to make it into the top five best selling manufacturers globally, at the cost of Sony Ericsson.
One retail source said: 'BlackBerry has done really well in managing to break into the consumer market with good devices and good price points, but they still have a challenge ahead of them'.
RIM was unavailable to comment.
