Tesco Mobile marketing chief gets COO role
Former Tesco Mobile chief marketing officer David Taylor has been promoted to the role of chief operating officer for Tesco Telecoms.
He took on the role at the end of March and has been given an extended remit that includes the mobile telecoms business within wider retail. He will manage the overall mobile contract propositions available through the retailer’s telecoms stores, but will still remain in charge of commercial marketing for Tesco Mobile.
Tesco is planning to open three phone shops per week and aims to deliver 100 per year. As part of the strategy, the retailer is looking to increase the number of contracts it sells through its stores.
Tesco Telecoms CEO Lance Batchelor said last month that Tesco Telecom stores will sell at least 333,000 contracts this year.
He said: ‘With prepay, we were only playing in half the market. Now, with our Phone Shops and the addition of 28 new handsets in our contracts range, we have moved into the whole of the consumer market.’
