Alcatel OT-206 becomes CPW’s fastest selling prepay handset
Carphone Warehouse has beaten its prepay handset sales record with a new Alcatel and Sun promotion.
The recent four-way partnership between Alcatel, Carphone Warehouse, the Sun and O2 has resulted in the fastest selling pre-pay handset in the history of the retailer.
The promotion, which ran for four days, led to 64,000 handsets being sold, beating the previous promotion which ran in October 2009.
Customers who wanted to buy the Alcatel OT-206 for £9.50 had to collect four tokens from the Sun in exchange for the handset with an England flag on it and an O2 Sim card with £10 credit.
The deal was offered as a pre-World Cup promotion. The Acatel OT-206 is an entry level handset with an FM radio and colour screen.
Carphone Warehouse teamed up with the Sun, Alcatel and Orange in October 2009 for a similar promotion, which resulted in 47,000 sales over three days. On the first day of the promotion, Carphone sold 14,000 Alcatel OT-203 handsets in two hours.
Alcatel UK and Ireland director, William Patterson, said: 'Following the success of our first handset promotion with Carphone Warehouse and The Sun newspaper in 2009, we were extremely delighted that we were able to build and develop this relationship via another exclusive partnership. The OT-206 World Cup handset has had a great response and we are thrilled that the promotion has been such a success.'
