Carphone Warehouse has poached Marks & Spencer international director Matt Stringer as its first UK MD and promoted retail director Steve Blan in a restructure of the business.
Stringer, who will report to CEO Andrew Harrison, will take on the role on 14 June.
He will have overall responsibility for Carphone’s UK business including its 800 stores across four divisions.
Stringer brings with him more than 15 years experience working in a number of roles within Marks & Spencer, where after starting in store, he rose through the ranks until recently he was responsible for its international operations.
Retail director Steve Blan has been promoted to the position of European retail director. Blan is charged with replicating the success he achieved in the UK across Carphone’s eight other European markets.
Meanwhile, commercial director Mark Eastham has been promoted to the position of UK Trading Director.
Eastham will have overall responsibility for all Carphone’s UK trading activities including the company’s manufacturer and network relationships. He will replace Graham Stapleton, chief commercial officer, who will now focus on a wider enterprise role including all commercial activities across CPW, The Phone House and synergies with Best Buy.
