Vodafone, Orange and O2 will launch the iPhone 4 – ‘the thinnest smartphone in the world’ – in the UK from 24 June. The three networks confirmed they would stock the phone today (8 June).
Pricing details and tariffs are yet to be released, but consumers are able to register their interest on the operators’ websites.
O2 will offer a limited time special upgrade offer for customers still tied into a contract who want to get their hands on the new device. Further details will be announced in the coming days, the network said.
O2 CEO Ronan Dunne said: ‘Apple has once again raised the bar with the iPhone 4. With three years’ experience in selling the iPhone we are well placed to support the new device with the best overall experience, including making it easy for new and existing customers to get their hands one.’
The handset will also be available in Carphone and Phones 4u.
Phones 4u CEO, Tim Whiting said: ‘Smartphones sales have increased dramatically over the past 12 months moving from 37% to 64% of the total mobile market due to consumer demand for email, internet and entertainment services.
He added that Phones 4u smartphone sales have tripled and now represent 85% of all sales.
‘We anticipate that the imminent arrival of the hotly anticipated iPhone 4 will continue to drive strong sales and market share which will be compounded by the arrival of competing smartphones to the market from the other handset manufacturers,’ said Whiting
The iPhone 4 is thinner, more powerful and lighter than any of the previous models.
It is coated in glass front and back, and has a high definition screen.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs Jobs said the new-look device was the 'biggest leap' it had taken since the launch of the first iPhone.
