Vodafone poised to appoint global brand chief

Vodafone is poised to appoint a global brand director after cutting 100 jobs from its global marketing team following a review.

The review followed the departure of global brand director David Wheldon. Wheldon was replaced by Harit Nagpal on an interim basis. However, Nagpal is leaving to join Sky India as chief executive and managing director.

Meanwhile, global brand director of strategy David Erixon is also leaving, but will not be replaced by Vodafone. Both Erixon and Nagpal were based in the UK.

The Group’s 90 day consultation of its global marketing operations was led by group marketing officer Wendy Becker.

A Vodafone spokeswoman said the job cuts were a result of the closure of its navigation arm Wayfinder.

Vodafone group marketing is responsible for handset promotion and company branding, as well as raising awareness of Vodafone 360.
