HP drops Windows 7 for WebOS
Hewlett Packard (HP) will not use Windows Phone 7
on its future smartphones, the company confirmed last week.
The IT giant’s European vice president said HP will use WebOS on its smartphones and
Windows 7 for its Slate tablet, due to be launched later this year.
The move follows HP’s acquisition
of Palm and its WebOS operating system in April this year for £657m. The company has yet to confirm if it will use the Palm name on its
smartphone portfolio or continue using its own Ipaq brand.
HP’s decision to stick with
Windows 7 for the Slate is thought to be because the
tablet will be aimed at enterprise customers.
HP has also registered the
name PalmPad recently, prompting speculation it is about to launch a rival to
the iPad that will run on WebOS.
