JAG founder John George shuts up shop

JAG founder John George is shutting up shop for good, passing 75 stores to Go Mobile MD Iain Humphrey at the end of this month.

George told Mobile: ‘We’re going to move everything to [Go Mobile’s headquarters] Daventry, and do away with my business here [in Perranporth, Cornwall].’

George said the pair hoped to finalise the deal by the end of this month, adding that he hoped to set up an air taxi business rather than stay in the mobile industry.

Both parties said the split was amicable.

Shebang and Go Mobile MD Iain Humphrey and JAG MD John George had inked an agreement for the two companies to enter into a joint venture on 1 July.

In 2007, JAG was poised to buy Go Mobile’s retail chain, but the deal collapsed due to differences over the value of Go Mobile.

Sad day for the industry. John George has been in the mobile industry from day one. Good luck to him.
