Brightstar builds new European team
Mobile distributor Brightstar Europe is building a new European management team as part of an expansion into new markets.
The distributor has created four senior roles to support its expansion into Europe, reporting to president of Brightstar Europe Rod Millar.
One of the roles has already been filled by former Vodafone handset chief Chris Edwards (pictured), who joined Brightstar as European vendor and purchasing director at the start of this month.
Edwards will be responsible for building relationships with vendors and manufacturers across Europe.
The distributor will also appoint a European marketing director, a European head of enterprise to focus on airtime, and a European head of accessories.
The creation of the new roles follows several acquisitions in Europe over the last three months.
Millar told Mobile: ‘While it is really important to keep our structure as lean as possible, we are creating a number of new senior roles to help support the rapid expansion that we have enjoyed over the last few years and continue to support our customers’ needs.’
Brightstar entered the UK three years ago and since then has gone into France, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria.
The distributor is currently operating in 13 countries across Europe. In May this year, the company bought AKL in Austria and introduced BlackBerry products to the market. Last month, Brightstar Europe bought MCC, a distributor operating in the Netherlands and Belgium.
At the time of the MCC acquisition, one source said: ‘Brightstar are obviously interested in growing their presence in Europe. They are looking to grow organically, but these acquisitions are a logical step for them as well.’
