Six cities vie to be Mobile World Congress host
GSMA, the organisation behind Mobile World Congress, has announced that six cities are competing to host the event from 2013.
The six cities bidding for the host title are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Cologne, Milan, Munich and Paris.
The winning city will host the annual event for five years from 2013 to 2017. The GSMA is expecting to shortlist the potential cities by January 2011 and announce the winner by the middle of 2011.
Mobile World Congress is expected to have more than 50,000 visitors next year in Barcelona, the current host since 2006.
GSMA CEO John Hoffman said: ‘The mobile industry continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace and the GSMA is also advancing its business to meet the changing requirements of constituents across the global communications industry.
'The Mobile World Congress has grown significantly since it was started in 1987, and we look forward to shaping the future of the event with one of these outstanding candidate cities.’
