Telecoms union Prospect welcomes T-Mobile’s lone worker review

Telecoms union Prospect has welcomed T-Mobile’s decision to review its lone working policy.

The union has been a running the campaign ‘Respect in Retail’, which looks at protecting the mobile retail sector from violence and abuse, for over a year.

As part of the campaign, Prospect has been visiting shops around the country to raise awareness of the issue. The campaign is backed by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, an organisation that offers practical guidance to reduce fear of crime and develop strategies to stay safe.

Prospect is hoping the move from T-Mobile will prompt other operators to follow suit.

The union is carrying out a survey of members around the issue of lone working to see how operators are addressing the risks of lone working.

A Prospect official said: ‘The move by T-Mobile is welcome – hopefully other operators will now follow suit and take steps to ensure that where possible staff are not left in a vulnerable position. It is only regrettable that it has taken a number of high profile robberies and our own ‘Respect in Retail’ campaign to provoke this long overdue move. We can only hope that operators who do not have good policies in place will take note.’
