BlackBerry App World hits 10,000 apps

RIM’s application store, BlackBerry App World has hit the 10,000 app mark, it revealed today.

The manufacturer also claims more than one million applications have been downloaded globally from the portal and 30m customers have downloaded the app world client.

The announcement marks RIM’s shift to provide exclusive content for its handsets. However, the manufacturer still has some catching up to do with Apple’s app store and the Android marketplace.

In January this year, Apple announced that three billion applications had been downloaded for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apple’s app store offers over 200,000 applications.

The Android Marketplace offers in excess of 70,000 free and paid-for applications.

In August RIM launched BlackBerry App World 2.0, which changed a number of features, such as dropping the minimum price of applications and making payment easier.
