Apple launches OS 4.1
Apple has launched OS 4.1, bringing mobile gaming platform Game Center to its devices.

The software update, which was first previewed by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during an event last week, will launch on iTunes today (9 September).

The update will be available on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and second generation or later iPod Touches.

Game Center allows users to send and receive friend requests, invite friends to play multiplayer online games on the platform, view leader boards and achievements and find out about new games from friends.

However, Game Center is not supported on iPhone 3G devices.

The 4.1 software update will also bring high dynamic range (HDR) photos to the iPhone 4, the opportunity to rent TV programmes on iTunes, support for uploading HD video on YouTube or MobileMe over Wi-Fi and bug fixes for the iPhone 4 proximity sensor issue, as well as iPhone 3G performance.
