New HTC Desire handsets' pricing and channels revealed

The new HTC Desire handsets will be free when bought on contracts of a maximum of £35 per month, HTC executive director of UK and Ireland Jon French has revealed.

The manufacturer announced two new devices today, the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire Z. Both handsets will be on sale in the UK from mid-October.

The HTC Desire HD will be sold through all operators, retailers and distribution channels apart from O2.

When pressed on why O2 will not be selling the new Desire HD, French declined to comment on specifics.

The HTC Desire Z will go on sale with Vodafone, Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u.

The HTC Desire Z will be the manufacturer’s first handset with a physical QWERTY keyboard since it started producing own branded handsets.

Both handsets will operate on Android 2.2 and like the
HTC Legend will be made out of aluminum.

The HTC Desire HD has an eight-megapixel camera which users can apply effects such as sepia and black and white when they are taking a picture. It also has a 4.3-inch screen and HD video recording capability.

The HTC Desire Z has a five-megapixel camera, HD recording capability and a 3.7-inch super LCD screen.

Both handsets will have HTC’s improved version of its user interface HTC Sense and will be compatible with the manufacturer's new cloud service
