Read Sebastian James's Power 50 profile for 20154 June 2015
Sebastian James has driven his business to a market-leading position amid a climate of vast and radical change. It is all the more impressive when you consider that he has been integrating two of Europe’s most powerful retail forces at the same time.
James has not only overseen the merger of the Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse businesses but has also successfully positioned the new entity as the retail hub for the connected customer.
Rising to the challenge of leading such a large organisation, James has not been shy with taking big strategic decisions and securing major partnerships. James was at the helm as the retailer signed multi-year deals with EE, O2 and Vodafone. The Phone House business units in Germany and the Netherlands have now been sold off, and long-term service contracts secured with the buyers for the brand’s Connected World Services divisions.
James has continued to innovate throughout the year, demonstrating bravery and commitment to using the retailer’s portfolio to develop new product categories. The efforts made by the CEO to integrate the mobile proposition into traditional Dixons retail stores as well as broadening the horizons of the Carphone portfolio has been remarkable. From launching the UK’s first wearables zones to being the chosen retailer for Google’s UK store-in-stores, James has been responsible for delivering innovations that not only turn heads but deliver results.
A true leader, Sebastian James has the gravitas to command a room full of executives, but is equally at home chatting to the staff at their flagship Oxford Street store.
