Ronan Dunne - CEO, O2
The past 12 months were a year of ‘sharpening the pencil’ as Dunne put it, as the operator sought to put some tough trading from previous years behind it. He has been lauded for steadily improving the financial performance of the business, although it is not out of the woods yet. The operator has continued to innovate, with its Refresh tariff catching the eye and Priority Moments being brought to local businesses.
Another testament to Dunne’s success is the conditions he is trading under. Parent company Telefonica is struggling to deal with debts of more than €50bn, with it selling off parts of its business to cope. Dunne pushing the envelope in difficult circumstances and experimenting with what an operator can do continues to impress.
