Kazuo Hirai - CEO, Sony
Hirai has been no fool, demonstrating himself to be a smart and capable executive since taking control of the manufacturer on 1 April last year. Mobile is one of the cornerstones of the business’s attempts to rebuild and Hirai is remarkably unsentimental about taking the steps needed to do so. He most recently mulled spinning off the company’s entertainment group to raise cash and has had a carefree attitude to selling off assets, including its New York headquarters.
The rate of change implies a risky strategy but many are impressed by the job Hirai is doing. One said: ‘Sony is quite innovative and that innovation is coming from Japan. The roadmap looks really good. The new mobile products won’t be big leaps like the Xperia Z was but they are a nice evolution and will keep them on top of its rivals.’
