It’s welcome back to an old favourite. Despite several attempts to step back into mobile since spinning off BT Cellnet a decade ago, BT’s success in the 4G auction marked its intent to be a major player once again. It is seeking a mobile partner and has a neat chunk of spectrum to launch its own services. Livingston is being cautious for now; expect BT to be a quad-play player similar to Virgin Media rather than the next O2. But who knows how big its ambitions could grow? BT has content, scale and a load of experience in the telecoms sector. The next big disruptor in the industry could be one of its oldest names.
